We had a busy little summer in the Frifeldt house! Let me show you what we've been up to!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">These two stinkers are getting even more silly EVERYDAY! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtibCm4zEpOs9RWNjlJDzQt-lOwcgSugoGRCIKR88r-I7HnidoZcAyMJOWoHzATLK7BUm1bYcSeMNQ33j5CEy5kgVFa4ZJqSM-mwRoKUNkxqGeMnx2TGfuaQ5hV63_6P60FbUXo4nG3A/s1600/7-29-11+019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtibCm4zEpOs9RWNjlJDzQt-lOwcgSugoGRCIKR88r-I7HnidoZcAyMJOWoHzATLK7BUm1bYcSeMNQ33j5CEy5kgVFa4ZJqSM-mwRoKUNkxqGeMnx2TGfuaQ5hV63_6P60FbUXo4nG3A/s320/7-29-11+019.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This little guy had a BLAST during his 3 weeks of summer school ( except for the whole pesky bus injury situation that we are still dealing with)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj55WStnroIYKnDOnP1MmLTcLBopylU7dpB524FB1kmt40-yAUYIO7GS17F5Of1v1TG1uvupMbi7wbZCaXswIccuCaCz8Y5L2qyTFK2xJ_zf4TJ5om0Rr9PApHbNgdOfyvmlA9Tq0wu5g/s1600/7-11-11+027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj55WStnroIYKnDOnP1MmLTcLBopylU7dpB524FB1kmt40-yAUYIO7GS17F5Of1v1TG1uvupMbi7wbZCaXswIccuCaCz8Y5L2qyTFK2xJ_zf4TJ5om0Rr9PApHbNgdOfyvmlA9Tq0wu5g/s320/7-11-11+027.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We havnt been on our date to celebrate yet.. because that turned out not to be a very good week around here... not only did Owen end up in urgent care for the first time with a super high fever but we had to make the call to say goodbye to the most amazing little dust mop that ever lived :</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpLbFggn0ZOyClxvHGZT0ZEik5K9RDeD0Nt657FoYw0s1aJ5TxCdhsjXEe0OOBtRtxnDnn3VT_PtSPw7QVolSSWeGJTXNFayJ30Lox7VErQqAyIUN6qPWlvan3XEnFLaClemEjjZuFjg/s1600/3-9-11+016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpLbFggn0ZOyClxvHGZT0ZEik5K9RDeD0Nt657FoYw0s1aJ5TxCdhsjXEe0OOBtRtxnDnn3VT_PtSPw7QVolSSWeGJTXNFayJ30Lox7VErQqAyIUN6qPWlvan3XEnFLaClemEjjZuFjg/s320/3-9-11+016.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I miss my sweet Fuji man very much! He's been my best friend since I was 9 years old and it was not easy to say goodbye! but he had the most amazing long life and I knew it was time. Fuji being the amazing dog he was didnt want my house and heart to be too sad for long though... he had his replacement all lined up and through fate Finley joined our family that very next week!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The second day of school my sweet precious child came home injured on the school bus. No on can/ will explain to me HOW this happened! It is presumed to have happened on the bus but not a single person can tell me how in the world my 2.5 year old child came home with a black eye and scratched up face! I am now on a mission to get security cameras installed in the buses that service my son's school! This a special needs school where almost none of the students would be able to vocalize what may happen to them! My son will no longer be riding on these buses but I feel a responsibility to help get ALL of these children protected! PLEASE PLEASE help me show the school and transportation department how important this issue is by signing this petition and passing it on to everyone you know! I will <3 you forever! :D Below is a link to follow (and thats a picture of my sweet angels face btw) <br />

I think it has something to do with my "baby" going off to school next week (insert sobbing and sniffling here) He's also turning 3 in 2 months!! and 2 months after that my other actual baby turns 1!! GASP!!! 3 and 1 ???? WHAT THE HEY??? Also contributing to this asinine theory is the fact that facebook shows me all these pictures of people I went to school with getting married like every other day these days! I <3 weddings! I mean like seriously, I have an entire folder of wedding ideas for someday one some lovely girl I know decides to let me plan her wedding! (my poor Son's future wives... ) But all these wedding pictures are reminding me that our 4 year anniversary is coming up at the end of the month! <3!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Does using all your inner strength to stop yourself from running outside in your pj's with no make up on to yell at the neighbors to turn down the music that is rattling in your house make you old?? Ok lets be truly honest here: The other day I honestly WOULD have gone outside with my screaming child on my hip (who the music had just woken up from a nap) had I been able to attain a shower previously in the day! Something about this situation just makes my blood boil and it also makes the cranky <strike>OLD </strike> neighbor lady! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Also in breaking news... The lovely friend of mine that cuts Owen and I's hair made an audible GASP while cutting my hair last week exclaiming that I have GRAY hair and telling me I should start thinking about highlight colors ...... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You want to see another thing that makes me feel old? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRv8Pz_07Fl8gFKPX2t5p7FZ0Q7WvUTvAUc1nzUy-Zs7k1mLwRVsU3Ql1nno0j5kbnxRuRF_7-1cf3UhntMKfUqVaeDQbGw1Hcxi0nyYZ5AOewR3F7eBZWd1iXpJsj37Voesqzm9lDXQ/s1600/5-19-11+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRv8Pz_07Fl8gFKPX2t5p7FZ0Q7WvUTvAUc1nzUy-Zs7k1mLwRVsU3Ql1nno0j5kbnxRuRF_7-1cf3UhntMKfUqVaeDQbGw1Hcxi0nyYZ5AOewR3F7eBZWd1iXpJsj37Voesqzm9lDXQ/s320/5-19-11+003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My grandparents recently gifted me this table and chairs set from my childhood! (I took this pic after I scrubbed the H-E-double-heck out of it and removed the edging on the table) I have so many memories of playing with the table as a little girl and now its was being passed on to my children! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">One problem : Its pretty hideous and even after all that scrubbing it still looked filthy! So I thought I would give it a little revamp! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I took the legs off the table and hauled it all outside to spray paint it! (The top and two of the legs are chalk board spray paint and the chairs and other two legs are krylon fusion's bright blue color - I cant remember the actual name atm.) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguIOmo7IbMeGU9HN4yIpSMHTeHLTzFdIJ-7UE74ePS3v7PYM3zvSuVnzCy08CIfR_E8GFceQNGn1ldtOFHhgbDhDJ-kdU64l0fzdDfAJAQpm-9dpDOqZDl3daChNBAR92Wk3wt4fsBRg/s1600/5-26-11+039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguIOmo7IbMeGU9HN4yIpSMHTeHLTzFdIJ-7UE74ePS3v7PYM3zvSuVnzCy08CIfR_E8GFceQNGn1ldtOFHhgbDhDJ-kdU64l0fzdDfAJAQpm-9dpDOqZDl3daChNBAR92Wk3wt4fsBRg/s320/5-26-11+039.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then I added some scrapbook paper with mod podge to accent it , and here is how it turned out!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMrkwjmDq1IdYFCAmHId9zLSqXaN1VcyYyUNkPaDDQlxC92l9S__Gvua8tbXus76a3U7tdC5xNXBLGk6M28BSf39PkjK3vuPHb5EhOMU9ngWW2oMbY0wlGrtPhqcVlqzexOMxxej7RIw/s1600/7-6-11+024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMrkwjmDq1IdYFCAmHId9zLSqXaN1VcyYyUNkPaDDQlxC92l9S__Gvua8tbXus76a3U7tdC5xNXBLGk6M28BSf39PkjK3vuPHb5EhOMU9ngWW2oMbY0wlGrtPhqcVlqzexOMxxej7RIw/s320/7-6-11+024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">of course he would choose to take his brother's chair to model for a picture ;P </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uTtKF4olvA0yncbypkVMXoM3uCcsZI1usxGrkIoWkI1UCHEAS9cFoYW1HA_zLdTnIrwdpEtPlNbKLgoHqJD6jLIwzxgxmx51_TFOHtEMO8-_LKOv2vW8pbFMIjYB2ulFBsinrGInAQ/s1600/7-6-11+021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uTtKF4olvA0yncbypkVMXoM3uCcsZI1usxGrkIoWkI1UCHEAS9cFoYW1HA_zLdTnIrwdpEtPlNbKLgoHqJD6jLIwzxgxmx51_TFOHtEMO8-_LKOv2vW8pbFMIjYB2ulFBsinrGInAQ/s320/7-6-11+021.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Much better dont ya think?? I have to say seeing it look so different makes me feel slightly less old! So mission accomplished for the day I suppose... I mean until the neighbors annoying "grown" son comes to visit this afternoon like clock work and leaves his base pumping and my house shaking while he's in the house for who knows how long "chillin", Or when Monday comes around again next week and I have to send my sweet baby boy off with his lunch box and back pack! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I am talking about the sending my little baby almost 3 year old ON A BUS (that has a car seat of course) to SCHOOL kind of school (long half days for the month of July and then full school days when school starts back up in Sept)!! This is going to change the dynamics in our family swiftly and I wasnt quite prepared for this for a couple more years yet! <strike>Am I really old enough to have a kid in school? lol </strike> Anyways on the point of this post!<br />
<div><br />
<div>I have always despised planning and felt like it boxed me in! I see the potential benefits this type of planning has dont get me wrong but even now the thought of planning stuff in detail leaves me feeling slightly claustrophobic...but like I said above soon I will be dealing with school schedules, lunch packing, ect ... and I have to face the facts...as I am sure many of you moms out there can attest to, that saying "the baby ate my brain" well thats totally TRUE! and it gets worse the more of them you have! Dont you wish someone would have warned you about THAT one? Its either that or my brain is aging at a peculiarly fast pace ... so I am sticking with the first option! Thus I am diving head first into this planning mayhem and trying to remind myself that its just a PLAN if I feel like changing it ... whoopty freakin do! :P </div><div><br />
</div><div>The first thing I wanted to do was try out monthly meal planning ! I know a lot of people who do this and I always thought... :O .... how do you plan a whole month at a time when I can hardly pick out enough for a week! But I have to tell you it really wasnt horrible - granted I havnt actually implemented it yet... (coming July 1st) But I honestly thought it was going to be this mind numbing project to put together where I stared at recipes for DAYS! But no... it only took me a couple of hours to whip together!</div><div><br />
</div><div>Step one: </div><div>I created a word document with a list of main course dishes we like or I have been wanting to try! I shot for aprox 31 of them for now but I hope to expand on this list as we go! (If the dish was from a website I included the link next to it) </div><div><br />
</div><div>Step two:</div><div>I downloaded a fee calendar online and using word arranged my dishes in an appealing order (of course keeping in mind I will probably still juggle things around some within the week) You can view our dinner menu <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=17hpShtmeDCRN9pGFV6C3HVmjrsPxDVA_JdpkIWrXOwU">here </a> but dont judge me on the health factor.....lol its a work in progress and I try to work in at least a couple meals a week that I know the picky little Mr. will eat! </div><div><br />
</div><div>Step three:</div><div>This is to be completed yet but I am hoping to plan out lunches as well (at least for Owen on school days ) </div><div><br />
</div><div>Also stay tuned for a little crafty project involving a meal planning board that will make this even easier!</div></div><br />
<br />

I linked up to <a href="http://polkadotsonparade.blogspot.com/">Wow Me Wednesday</a> mrs_djfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12617646654455376859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11276761747371173.post-52572770445738541432011-06-24T06:06:00.000-07:002011-06-28T09:33:41.910-07:00Shaving Cream Bath PaintsFact : kids LOVE shaving cream! Take it from someone who sprayed bottles and bottles of the stuff into sensory tables <strike>(and smelled like a man for the rest of the day)</strike> for years before her own little darlings came along! They love to draw in it, squish it, smell it... (it smells like daddy is a common response! hehe) Well all of that is fine and dandy unless your my kid! I was so excited to bring home my huge can of shaving cream so we could go to town in our own sensory table.. = FAIL!! He hated it and he actually cried "OUCH OUCH" over and over until I got it all off him (which he often says when he dosnt like the sensation of something). But I wasnt ready to give up on my trusty shaving cream all together yet!! Especially considering that I currently try to work 3 tactile sensory activities into each day for him as part of his sensory diet! ( we need a little variety around here!) I have seen this done a few places in blog land and its soooo easy I had to try it! I think it was a huge success, but you be the judge!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">here is what you need : shaving cream, food coloring, new/very clean paint brush, containers for the "paints" ( I really liked using these disposable pie plates because they floated in the tub without flipping over) </div><br />

He is probably the best husband and father I have ever met... and no I am not just saying that because he's sitting here watching me type this...He really is that amazing! :) So when I came across this <a href="http://ohhappyday.com/2010/06/diy-hero-supplies-for-fathers-day/">Hero Supply Kit</a> I knew it was just the right thing to make for my amazing yet incredibly hard to buy gifts for husband! :D<br />
<br />
<br />
So here we go!<br />
This was super easy to do and really easy to customize! <a href="http://ohhappyday.com/">oh happy day</a> has labels that you can print if you wish.. I liked the idea of making my own so I customize the wording slightly and play with the colors a little. I just used exel and inserted shapes and word art to my liking. I purchased printable sticker paper from the all mighty hobby lobby! (note to self: realize when you pick up the one package thats half the price... there are also half the amount of pages...good thing I had JUST enough to finish my project!) and then printed my labels out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXjSIIywgtXiFxKmubr_1YYTcdYF4_eaEfCIDSHR7tmBPj-QSMvgglCGANv8ORXHQN6YcXy86CVWyet7YezEnTAtM7xUd5SXxfVLoIrmlzwnq36EQt01LNu1_oVgFhPo-anmnAAdl5Sw/s1600/6-16-11+079.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXjSIIywgtXiFxKmubr_1YYTcdYF4_eaEfCIDSHR7tmBPj-QSMvgglCGANv8ORXHQN6YcXy86CVWyet7YezEnTAtM7xUd5SXxfVLoIrmlzwnq36EQt01LNu1_oVgFhPo-anmnAAdl5Sw/s320/6-16-11+079.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I chose to use things I know DH really likes and based my labels off of that. I picked up a package of clear treat bags (25 for $1.99 I believe) and used twisty ties to close them ( I figured they were a little more "manly" than ribbon) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I have just been wading through as many yahoo group, websites, and print outs with info about sensory processing disorder that I can get my hands on in my "free" time these days! This past month or so has been a whirlwind of emotions and information and great growth in our family!<br />
<br />
The successes Owen has achieved in the past month have amazed us! ( You know there have been big changes when the receptionist at the chiropractor comments on how much your child has "opened up and is talking more" )He's making noise CONSTANTLY now! ( I almost caught myself telling him to be quiet recently while he was playing and jabbering/ signing to himself because the noise was just irritating me at that moment....and then just before I opened my<strike> highly annoyed</strike> mouth I stopped dead in my tracks, gave him a big hug and then walked away and cried for a minute).Owen is also starting to be able to communicate complete thoughts between signing and using words! He was talking to my mom on the phone the other day and she clearly understood that he was telling her that I was feeding the baby! Another HUGE accomplishment is that Owen actually ate what I served for dinner 4 consecutive days in a row so far this week including meat! Previously he would refuse dinner at least 85% of the time! He is also sleeping so much better! He's gone from waking at least once a night pretty much every night and crying for hours before he fell asleep to falling asleep peacefully and staying asleep almost every night! Even the way he's playing has changed for the better! He dosnt throw things nearly as much and is beginning to use some pretend play as well! :D<br />
<br />
So you might be asking what did you change? He probably seems like a pretty normal (although rambunctious) little boy to any outsider! Well Owen is not just like any other little boy... He is a child with special needs, and I am the mother of a special needs child. Yes I just said that and I know it might upset some family and close friends to hear that... but it is the truth and I no longer have the time or desire to tip toe around people's feelings on this subject. I know that may sound harsh, but it is not a terrible thing! It is simply a fact that we have come to accept! We are moving forward and thriving in this new journey in our lives! I've said before that Owen has an educational Autism diagnosis and I have also mentioned Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD for future reference). I spend a large portion of my day (sometimes my entire day other than caring for the other little Mr.) helping Owen do his Sensory diet activities. These activities/ therapies are what have caused his recent great successes and I am so proud of the leaps he as made in the past few weeks! All of this is a lot to take in and it pretty much consumes my time other than the normal everyday things that need to get done, so chances are this blog will be more frequented with posts about SPD and Owen's progress than with crafts and recipes for a while! I also am having a hard time finding blogs of other parents dealing with SPD so I feel like I should keep posting about this topic since I read a new statistic yesterday that 1 in 20 kids are being diagnosed with this disorder ! I know many of you are curious about whats going with Owen as well so I think this will be a good place to keep you updated the best that I can! Please feel free to ask me any questions! I will try my very best to explain them! We are so blessed to be the parents of this amazing little boy and I cant even tell you the relief it brings me as a mother that there are things I can do to help him succeed in life!<br />

I am sure everyone out there can relate to this problem too... I dont have enough time! There are just not enough hours in day to keep the house as clean as I would like, to run the errands that need run, wash & and put away laundry, and spend truly meaningful time with my amazing family (forget any crafting,baking,& blogging that this momma might enjoy!) Add on top of all that the fact that I have to try and fit in as much sensory therapy for Owen as I possibly can in a day to help him be the best he can be (more on that in a minuet)and it usually leads to some days where I feel like I have all my ducks in a row and others where I feel like they are scurrying about a willy nilly! <br />
<br />
This morning was a ducks in a row kind of day!:D Man I love those days! The littlest Mr. let me "sleep in" until 7:15 and then since we didnt have school this am Owen sure wasnt waking up early (he's pretty sure he's a teenager @ 2.5 already and pulls the covers over his head if I try to get him up before 9 am...lol)So I was able to shower, tidy up a bit and start some laundry first thing this am while Liam played happily!! I was also expecting a sweet friend for a coffee date late this am (funny how people coming over can lite a fire under your butt eh?) Now, I really love to bake and I also love to have fresh baked goods when I have people over (yeah I know your all signing up for a coffee date soon right? lol )So I was excited to have the time to get ALL that stuff done in time to make some yummy cookies before my coffee date! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>These cookies also served a different purpose this am though. They were part of Owen's sensory therapy for the morning! If you've read my previous post about Owen you know he has an educational "autism" diagnosis but the more we research and the more his occupational therapist has worked with him we are leaning more towards the fact that he may have something called sensory processing disorder. (you can read more about SPD <a href="http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.com/sensory-integration-dysfunction-symptoms.html">here</a> ) I will try not to bore you with all the complicated mumbo jumbo, but basically we need to fulfill his sensory needs in order for his body to calm down enough to learn and be content. One of the goals his occupation therapist has for him is to achieve better wrist rotation ( turning door knobs, screw on lids ect).... I know this might seem like a silly "goal" to some of you especially if you know Owen because most people think of him as a "normal" child but these "small" things are the kinds of things we work on every day to try and get our sweet, handsome, energetic boy caught up to where he needs to be. I try to sneak these activities in where ever I can in our day to make it fun and since Owen loves to bake with me there is no complaining or resisting about doing it ;) He carries all the heavy things like flour,sugar ect from the pantry and puts them on the island for me, he adds ingredients to the bowl, he stirs... they are all great fine/gross motor activities that any child enjoys but they serve a defined purpose for him in getting some of the pent up energy out of his body! Today I choose a recipe that included a special challenge! DUN DUN DUN the peanut butter jar!!lol<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We made peanut butter chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. I used pretty much this exact recipe from <a href="http://bakingbites.com/2010/05/peanut-butter-oatmeal-cookies/">Baking Bites </a> but I left off the icing and I added chocolate chips! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This recipe is really simple. Basically you mix the dry ingredients in bowl</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_HU1Alv15vxM7ZQHUBxQVhrwvcWuA4GItnnisxc96wY2HAcW34aH3vHWkHb_DMOgbD4Gg_jPocLcan8X30XrGyJkvhUZ8Nu0W44nP7is3trBBwtp2RaQpooWsPfS7wDvJMB8i3wPPYg/s1600/5-26-11+051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_HU1Alv15vxM7ZQHUBxQVhrwvcWuA4GItnnisxc96wY2HAcW34aH3vHWkHb_DMOgbD4Gg_jPocLcan8X30XrGyJkvhUZ8Nu0W44nP7is3trBBwtp2RaQpooWsPfS7wDvJMB8i3wPPYg/s320/5-26-11+051.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then you cream your butter and sugar together and mix in the rest of the ingredients</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBBjLkJkyzioRTHgDAMHv7mJKVd7t-6lOiPgDBlJsOB2AjWoI2CCzj1Q658S_zjWPgUqcmhcm4-rVbb73lf8iyBR7E5d-1NrhsdShKb4xCIjQXAwINaBosWltiVGir5H9haqecZMjvVA/s1600/5-26-11+052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBBjLkJkyzioRTHgDAMHv7mJKVd7t-6lOiPgDBlJsOB2AjWoI2CCzj1Q658S_zjWPgUqcmhcm4-rVbb73lf8iyBR7E5d-1NrhsdShKb4xCIjQXAwINaBosWltiVGir5H9haqecZMjvVA/s320/5-26-11+052.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Lately I have had quite a few people tell me they dont know how I do all the cooking, baking, and crafting that I do with a 2.5 year old running around and an almost 6 month old ! As much as I would adore the "superwoman" title some have busted out ..... Its completely not true because I CHEAT!... a lot... LOL Sometimes I choose baking cookies over doing laundry just because I feel like it and I blessed enough to be a SAHM, meaning... guess what, that laundry will still be there tomorrow! LOL I also have several crafting projects that are sitting around partly finished because I just dont have the time sometimes! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Let me introduce you to one of the ways I cheat :</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia_EGj12IcXduYI6YbSjpNBM56qaMYFGvYbiRA4PCHQ9CkPbu4Tl8hPPN8JQIFeixxjmy7DjDSZCNfiSQ4ixuW0BUm0um41Y50gDiT97f2rKYVNZIdSVFIbj3QjvxknsM8I4NIys1p_Q/s1600/4-27-11+035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia_EGj12IcXduYI6YbSjpNBM56qaMYFGvYbiRA4PCHQ9CkPbu4Tl8hPPN8JQIFeixxjmy7DjDSZCNfiSQ4ixuW0BUm0um41Y50gDiT97f2rKYVNZIdSVFIbj3QjvxknsM8I4NIys1p_Q/s320/4-27-11+035.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEmNPPge1STzPjEpFl0F9kAwTy5DU_HDe8WawlNNCkv07avlgEggI6lOwtYvsE4xDPG0kCSaCghwYwoIGHkTHbQVCV953ebxdGzzZGqPsAoDoXQ7q3rMJjRVVW6euDysd2JxMGN5BU8g/s1600/4-27-11+034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEmNPPge1STzPjEpFl0F9kAwTy5DU_HDe8WawlNNCkv07avlgEggI6lOwtYvsE4xDPG0kCSaCghwYwoIGHkTHbQVCV953ebxdGzzZGqPsAoDoXQ7q3rMJjRVVW6euDysd2JxMGN5BU8g/s320/4-27-11+034.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Truth be told I actually bought this beauty as Christmas gift for someone this past year... and I just couldnt bring myself to give it away! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Seriously if you dont have one of these, you NEED one! They are not expensive at all and turn out the cutest little cookies with ease! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I actually made these cookies a while back on the same day I made those oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! The house was in decent shape already that day and both the kids decided to nap at the same time (cue chorus of angles singing!!!) I still felt like baking and I hadnt made a treat for the hubs to take to work to share in couple weeks<strike>,and I was starting to fear a riot of treat craving men</strike>.. so I busted out my cookie press and went to town! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have a thing for the combination of chocolate and coconut! When asked what my favorite candy bar is I usually answer with this "Almond Joy, with out the almond" I know what your thinking... so you mean Mounds?? ... NOPE! Mounds uses dark chocolate and Almond Joy uses milk chocolate! I much prefer milk chocolate so I usually just dont eat the Almond, unless I am feelin like a nut that day ;) tehe! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Wilton's website has tons of different recopies for spritz cookies! They have a <a href="http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Chocolate-Spritz-Cookies">chocolate</a> one and a <a href="http://www.wilton.com/recipe/Coconut-Spritz-Cookies">coconut</a> one... but I couldnt find one combining the two.. so I made my own! :D Basically I just made the chocolate recipe and tossed some coconut in ;) I know I made that super complicated!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 1/4 c butter </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 c sugar</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2/3 c brown sugar</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2 large eggs</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 teaspoon vanilla </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2 1/2 c flour </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">2/3 c baking coco</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1/2 teaspoon baking soda</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1/4 teaspoon salt </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">1 c finely chopped coconut</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Yields aprox : 5 dozen </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(note: I halved this recipe which is why it looks like there is next to nothing in the bowl) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cream together butter and sugars until its light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and then vanilla </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

(Mod Podge Flower Pots)Hope all you momma's out there had the most lovely Mother's Day!!! My sweet boys gave me beautiful cards and a fancy professional cake decorating kit :D YUP, pretty stoked about that one! :D I am sure you'll be seeing it soon ;) Now that the they have all but one been handed out I can finally revel what I think may possibly be my favorite thing I have ever made... although it seems like I may have said this before... humm..<br />
<br />
<br />
Materials Needed:<br />
clay flower pots<br />
acrylic paints<br />
foam brushes<br />
fabric<br />
mod podge<br />
indoor/ outdoor sealer<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Use a foam brush and acrylic paints to paint the top of the flower pots (I painted to just under the lip on the inside and outside) You'll need a couple coats to get good coverage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoWyegbhspyKsi0XD3fj4EWXeR9lCPGf124MWdasjwwvKrisE01OigYxPtxHB3AgHizd1CtXA9vjizxGqZjob0O5-txmDRZ7OnOL7Q6Psct-B-3mUEH_HS9p70Npekop4fN-Ccc2uqHw/s1600/5-4-11+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoWyegbhspyKsi0XD3fj4EWXeR9lCPGf124MWdasjwwvKrisE01OigYxPtxHB3AgHizd1CtXA9vjizxGqZjob0O5-txmDRZ7OnOL7Q6Psct-B-3mUEH_HS9p70Npekop4fN-Ccc2uqHw/s320/5-4-11+001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoG2AVZmpedQLV1hGvRaFOkbeOJFk3QN2K1G-ShyphenhyphenGVLzVIVwNTp9TxkVRDNHPvxxxZdx0YOMUotZVQi-sV7UPS9zk8gfShlFRoJ1B0kp9tXtuByV4Ub3u3Yo1iAWdOqG_wVORBzNyLCw/s1600/5-4-11+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoG2AVZmpedQLV1hGvRaFOkbeOJFk3QN2K1G-ShyphenhyphenGVLzVIVwNTp9TxkVRDNHPvxxxZdx0YOMUotZVQi-sV7UPS9zk8gfShlFRoJ1B0kp9tXtuByV4Ub3u3Yo1iAWdOqG_wVORBzNyLCw/s320/5-4-11+005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I used my rotary cutter, self healing mat, and quilting ruler to cut my fabric. ( but you could do this with scissors and a ruler as well!) These pots were 12 in in diameter just under the lip so my fabric is slightly longer than that and wide enough to fold under the bottom side as well. It works best to angle the edges as I did here! Dont ask me why it matters ....but after quite some time and experimentation its what worked! lol </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpI1GeOGV-sh2uCFjuuoVt1GQbSPuArVTq-wJHVYIquj75bfKCWF8jL28yjCj79C60qXZQY77CgzFuc7-B62DEkTQKWu3I3QTVhyphenhyphenta5S0O4VGeL2pf8RSoxiYzD-iEirWJFBMTqJo3TA/s1600/5-4-11+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpI1GeOGV-sh2uCFjuuoVt1GQbSPuArVTq-wJHVYIquj75bfKCWF8jL28yjCj79C60qXZQY77CgzFuc7-B62DEkTQKWu3I3QTVhyphenhyphenta5S0O4VGeL2pf8RSoxiYzD-iEirWJFBMTqJo3TA/s320/5-4-11+008.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We gave these to all the Grandma's for mother's day! I intended to plant flowers in them..but I just wasnt finding what I wanted! So instead I picked up some packets of seeds . I also got some blank large gift tags from the craft store and let my 2 year old color them and then wrote a little something on them. Then I used cute ribbon to tie the tag to seed packets and tucked them into the pots with some shredded color paper as filler! They turned out super cute! and I cant wait to make some more of these for my own front porch! :D </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Although Owen has made some huge progress this past year (going from using 1-3 words in sept when he turned 2 to using almost 30 words + signing some more now) He is still testing roughly a year behind in his language as well as some other areas of development ( some specific motor developments, play skills, ect) because of this Owen has been given "an educational diagnosis of a child who has autism" this is NOT the same thing as a medical diagnosis and does not mean he would receive a medical diagnosis. ( Although I will be asking his paediatrician to do the medical screening at his 3 year check up just so we have both sides assessed and documented ) You can read <a href="http://www.asw4autism.org/Fact1.htm">here</a> more about the specifics of and educational diagnosis! This means that Owen currently requires special education services to hopefully get him caught up in time for K! It has been decided that this fall (possibly this summer if they have room that early in the class) Owen will be attending a preschool class in the same building he attends class now 4 days a week from 8-3. He will be given many wonderful opportunities in this class!! The class size will be small (typically 7 kids) with 3 teachers who will work with him heavily on bringing out more speech and helping him display more of the skills he does at home as well ( since typically being in different settings distracts him to the point where he will not preform skills he is quite proficient with at home) He will also have access to a large sensory room ( which has swings, trampolines, and many other interactive activities) daily. He will also get to swim in the pool (located in the building) and go horse back riding (also located on site) once a week! They would prefer that he rides the bus to and from school because of the different experience it provides and to consistency in the routine...but I dont know if mommy is ready for her baby to get on a bus and go to school all day... so we'll see... lol because at this point in his life Owen is requiring special needs services we may also qualify for a government grant that would supply us with extra monthly income to purchase things for him that would further his achievements such as specific new toys, additional therapies, or programs ect ! So there you have it!! Now you know what we know! Feel free to let me know if you have questions! I will try to answer them to the best of my abilities!! We feel very blessed to be able to give our little guy all this extra help now when he is so young and hopefully see him succeed and achieve great things :Dmrs_djfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12617646654455376859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11276761747371173.post-64007849717961539222011-05-02T12:11:00.000-07:002011-05-02T12:11:38.707-07:00Teacher Appreciation Week :) Homemade Strawberry Jam!This week is Teacher Appreciation week and Tuesday is National Teacher Appreciation Day! So dont forget to show some love to the ones who teach our little ones so much!!<br />
You may or may not know all the details on Owen's schooling but he goes to a class that evaluates for Autism and works on speech delays and sensory issues 2 times a week! He has one teacher, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, and several assistants who are in and out some that work in his classroom ... in case your counting thats a least 5 teachers that he sees on a regular bases! Which can make gifts add up QUICK!!! lol I have been racking my brain like crazy to find something small but meaningful to show our appreciation for all the help they have given our little guy! and then one day I had one of these light bulb brilliant moments that I think only the scatter brained head of a mother can have... lol My husband was making his lunch one morning while I was feeding the baby and he said to me "I need more jelly" and I said "THAT'S IT ... I am going to give them homemade jam with tags that say "Thank you berry much!" on them"!!! I know I know...sometimes my wit astounds me too...especially when I come up with such fantastical things at 6 am ;) ... My mom bought me a bread maker for Christmas last year and it has a "jam" cycle on it that I have been dying to try out! So I set off on my first jam making adventure and I am not sure I'll ever go back to store bought jam again! LOL :D<br />
<br />
I mean seriously... I tossed some sugar (ok... a LOT of sugar... but seriously I'd rather feed my family quite a lot of pure sugar than all the crap they put into commercial jam...lol) and a slightly mashed pint of strawberries into my bread maker pushed a few buttons and about an hour later I dumped the super hot jam into my huge glass pyrex measuring cup (its a 4 cupper and I <3 it) to let it cool and stirred it every few mins until it was cool and set to the right consistency! Then poured it into these ADORABLE little glass canning jars and that was it folks!! It keeps in the fridge for about 2 weeks and in the freezer for several months! (no canning method required BTW!)<br />

Well not only is he the cause of my ever spitty/smudged windows... he's also the cause of this war! I am in a full fledged war against ants in my house!!! Let me give you a recap:<br />
<br />
<br />
It all started one day when my sweet adorable 2 year old decided to very sneakily drop some dry cheerios behind the couch in the living room (I presume he was trying to feed them to a cat...but he's also prone to "hiding" things for fun... lol ) Now I vacuum my house at least once a week but I usually just swipe the wand around under the couch all willy nilly for a few times until I work up the motivation to actually move all the stuff and get behind there really well! lol So who really knows how long they'd been back there in the first place ...sigh... Being as its spring now I didnt really think much of the one or two ants I saw one day scurrying around on my floors. Then the next day I saw more and more and more!! UGH! So I started paying attention to them closely... and thats when I found the cheerios! I quickly cleaned them up and started firing with my arsenal of cinnamon and mint water anywhere I had seen them! after a few days there were no ants to be seen and I thought we were in clear! I thought i'd won the war and we could go back to living our ant free lives!! YAY!!!! I defeated these ants with out one drop of chemicals!!! :D I was so proud!<br />
<br />
and then.....<br />
I began to see them in small numbers on the other side of the room IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!! AHHHH!!<br />
and now my friends we are in a full out Ant war of the century!!! I have been keeping my house super clean! Washing out dishes right away.. keeping counters and floors clear of any crumbs I can find.... my husband now refers to me as the crumb natzi .... and our vacuum has lived in the kitchen for weeks to be used after every meal!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic5HVY9lCAuORPExvksoUSA__9uH8l6dMUfpLbj3S_ERpiWKo2jtLaASyHFAGob-h_-di23UlbnhD0QUHFZPi52hPiT81cOiM52ysN2VLgR_FKUU_rhAxXdaLgdK4s6dXO5LQgkXk_AQ/s1600/4-25-11+044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic5HVY9lCAuORPExvksoUSA__9uH8l6dMUfpLbj3S_ERpiWKo2jtLaASyHFAGob-h_-di23UlbnhD0QUHFZPi52hPiT81cOiM52ysN2VLgR_FKUU_rhAxXdaLgdK4s6dXO5LQgkXk_AQ/s320/4-25-11+044.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>(the repercussions of starting an ant war...at least when you have a mean mommy that lets you help since its like your favorite thing to do "makes" you vacuum up your crumbs from lunch. )</i></div><br />
I should have bought stock in cinnamon before this war started because now that the demand is up I apologize for the rise in rates!That cute little toddler is also quite annoyed that his <s> MEAN</s> mommy wont let him eat those dry cheerios from the couch in the mornings as well..And yet those pesky little buggers are around more than ever! I am so completely tired of spending hours of my day watching and learning their ant like ways in hopes of out smarting them!! Tonight I broke down and I asked my hubby to spray some pesticide (the kind thats supposed to be safe around pets and kids after it dries) behind my stove since is where they seem to be coming from. I dont feel great about this choice, but after having nightmares of MASS ant invasions carrying of my children and feeling like I have ants crawling all over me with every twitch and tingle I feel, I felt it was best for my sanity to "bust out the big guns" ! I'll keep you updated on the results....I mean unless this whole thing turns out like that movie "The Ant Bully" and I end up being turned into an ant to learn some empathy towards the ant species and all that...mrs_djfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12617646654455376859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11276761747371173.post-37044681019274494472011-04-25T15:45:00.000-07:002011-04-25T15:45:17.916-07:00My new best friends<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>What is it about toddlers and licking windows... especially freshly cleaned windows! I mean seriously I wish I knew what goes on their heads sometimes!! Is it like one of those "cool" things to do like sticking your tongue on a cold flag pole or peeing in the pool??? I suppose the same could be said for pets ...and I mean really are they THAT much different?? lol and to all you parents out there... dont act like your kid has never licked a window!!! We all know it happens! Even the sweetest most cutest kiddo in the world is a window licker!! Case in point...<br />
<br />
meet my window licker!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKNnojGG31HGy_OprnAf8qei0llTxl3THP5TL91-PRnTmunLh61qvDaDzXjOMw3IclchE4-go6mm8jkcCvLtnsf-t0TMLPy9glY282wRDDWObI3hNd1tYLK9wOdleHy0-NA0ORHTPz0g/s1600/4-1-11+012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKNnojGG31HGy_OprnAf8qei0llTxl3THP5TL91-PRnTmunLh61qvDaDzXjOMw3IclchE4-go6mm8jkcCvLtnsf-t0TMLPy9glY282wRDDWObI3hNd1tYLK9wOdleHy0-NA0ORHTPz0g/s320/4-1-11+012.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I mean could he get any more cute? I think not! and yet one of his favorite past times seems to be licking my windows and drawing in the spit he leaves there! lol!! (this also applies to my glass coffee table and end tables ) I am not fond of my child ingesting chemicals... and its been driving me crazy knowing the cleaners I am using around my house are not really good for us our our pets! So I have been trying some new more " natural" cleaners for a couple years now and I always seem to go back to the old toxic ones because the others dont preform well enough! behold ... my new best friends! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1gBbX2rpp4CJpIVk-qRytsrG47Ym1ViI71MYwFM_aXWl-HHfxNwCJytr_-Mc9aEgKUB1nCQ8B89c5H6kOBQlN6aLBKWtsCvY9vf7yFv-BzP-lXDCmDnk-YMfayZMS7s6lSblkkiQl8w/s1600/4-25-11+029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1gBbX2rpp4CJpIVk-qRytsrG47Ym1ViI71MYwFM_aXWl-HHfxNwCJytr_-Mc9aEgKUB1nCQ8B89c5H6kOBQlN6aLBKWtsCvY9vf7yFv-BzP-lXDCmDnk-YMfayZMS7s6lSblkkiQl8w/s320/4-25-11+029.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I have been using both these cleaners daily for about 2 weeks now ... and I have to say I LOVE them! They have taken spots off my walls with a simple spray and wipe of a cloth that I have scrubbed countless times with every other cleanesr and a bunch of elbow grease with no success! and I love knowing they are much better for us than the stuff we've been using so I had to share them with you and all your window lickers! ;P </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I dont have a computer desk since I just have my laptop and it generally lives on my kitchen island these days ( since I use it for cooking a ton) so I decided to tackle my craft desk ... which was a much needed project anyways! Its one of the spots in my house I am fighting with CONSTANTLY!! The desk happens to be in our bedrooms since it was the only place we could really restrict the kids from getting into my stuff ... lol My biggest problem was I didnt really have "storage" for the awesome desk my hubby built me (per request after I saw it on Martha Stewart ;) lol ) and I have quite a bit of miscellaneous craft supplies since I <s>could be a little ADD...</s> like to dabble in several areas...lol So I cleaned out the closet under our stairs downstairs (forgot to take before and after pics...opps!! lol) and I brought up the thing of plastic drawers and I found some basket and bins that I re purposed as well....its MUCH BETTER now and unlike all the other hundreds of times I have "straightened" this area up, I feel much more confident that it wont end up going back to looking like an absolute wreck so easily!<br />
<br />
please dont judge me for my before pic... I know its horrible and if you can believe it I actually just straightened it up about week ago.... LOL<br />

I probably wont be doing this EVERY day for the next 21 days ...because something I need to start doing is investing in containers and such for these types of projects! BUT we did a little "storage shopping" this weekend so I might be able to do a couple of them with what I got :D and now on to the junk drawer challenge from <a href="http://abowlfulloflemons.blogspot.com/2011/01/day-1-getting-organized-challenge.html">A bowl full of lemons </a> (please forgive the horrible pics... <s>My husband</s> someone needs to fix my camera screen that <s> his cat </s> the cat broke so I can actually see what I am doing.... someday...lol<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b> Before:</b> and yes I know you cant see the whole drawer... but you get the idea of things I think....lol</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJCFzl_dj57jHUaI1gJ3JOtC_l_dwFHv57pjHAtstr7hV33W4fabCEzqkULsoZIoDa262865wjJlNCMWMSYbTQ_kwKtFQf2UOgSMXoHhuppqnwU7UJCZs7PC9MrPcL2zJtYAVr9xsoUw/s1600/4-12-11+012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJCFzl_dj57jHUaI1gJ3JOtC_l_dwFHv57pjHAtstr7hV33W4fabCEzqkULsoZIoDa262865wjJlNCMWMSYbTQ_kwKtFQf2UOgSMXoHhuppqnwU7UJCZs7PC9MrPcL2zJtYAVr9xsoUw/s320/4-12-11+012.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The biggest thing I did was sort though the papers that were shoved in there! I recycled a TON of expired coupons, Christmas cards, just random papers ect! lol but I am also in the beginning process of making a house hold binder <a href="http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/search/label/Household%20Binder">like this one from IHeart Organizing</a>!So I grabbed a folder to put all the coupons that are still good, a couple of take out menus, and the other random papers that I still need in until I get my binder set up! Here's to hoping my drawer stays looking like this ... and the things from <s>my hubby's drawer</s> the next drawer over dont end up migrating to my more spacious drawer! LOL </div>mrs_djfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12617646654455376859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11276761747371173.post-20399490375973731402011-04-08T10:12:00.000-07:002011-04-08T10:12:25.191-07:0021 day Challenge!I dont know about any of you... but am TOTALLY addicted to reading blogs! Crafting blogs, baking blogs, home making blogs... I have an entire book mark folder that I am quickly compiling a list of my faves in!! lol I dont know if its because its finally spring or if I am just finally adjusted to being a mom of 2 (with a MUCH happier baby these days thank the Lord!) and no longer feel like I am barely keeping my head above water with an infant screaming 24/7 ... LOL but I feel motivated! Motivated to lose weight, motivated to work out, motivated to figure out how to stay more organized!! I am tired of feeling like I am losing this battle with my house on a daily bases!! I feel like I fight ALL day in between diaper changes, feedings, pumpings, playtime, ect to get the house at least somewhat picked up only to find it looking like I never did anything ALL day by the time we go to bed at night! LOL Thus I am on a quest to improve this situation!! Today I found this lovely blog : <a href="http://abowlfulloflemons.blogspot.com/">A bowl full of lemons</a> and she has a section called the 21 day challenge! She started this segment in January ... but I am taking up now anyways :) So stay tuned for some organization blog posts from me ;) and join me if you'd like!mrs_djfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12617646654455376859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11276761747371173.post-23610988531706528502011-04-07T07:32:00.000-07:002011-04-07T07:32:10.351-07:00conspiracy theoryI am fairly sure there is a conspiracy between my children to keep me from blogging! I cant even tell you how many times I have begun a new blog post in the last few weeks only to be distracted by someone who needs a diaper, wants some form of beverage/ food, or to be held! lol Such is the life of a SAHM with a toddler and an infant right? If I am being honest here I didnt even get to pee for the first time yesterday until after 2 pm so blogging has been pretty far down on the "to do" list :P<br />
<br />
One of these days I might get around to posting the like 3 recipes that I photographed like over a month ago... but on the other hand I dont know if my will power can handle it considering one of them is for one of my FAVORITE foods ever... homemade mac and cheese! and you see the Frifeldt parents are entering into a strict diet this week!! Mommy is ready to shed some of this baby weight and since my husband is quite certain that I am very much like the old witch from Hazel and Gretel and trying to fatten him up with all the yummy treats I am addicted to baking, He too is joining me on this quest to a thinner body! lol Now not to worry here friends... baking is not off the table!! Luckily for me my husbands coworkers quite enjoy when I send him off in the morning with tubs full of yumminess to share and how can I disappoint these hard working men?? <br />
<br />
Well now that "Timmy Time" is over...I am off to wipe some noses, change some diapers, and love on my babies <3<br />
<br />
~ Hope your all having the most fantastic week <3 ~mrs_djfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12617646654455376859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11276761747371173.post-66144908434643625722011-03-02T12:19:00.000-08:002011-03-02T12:19:52.095-08:00Double Layer Tutu's<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Warning: this is going to be a LONG post! lol </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Tutus are all the rage right now! They are a perfect prop for photos shoots, great for a little girls B-day party outfit, Dance classes, or even just dress up! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I have had lots of people ask me how I make these... and although its really quite simple its super hard to describe without the use of pictures or just plain showing someone in person! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So here we go! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">first lets talk about tools! I have made these tutus a few different ways.. and these tools make things go very smoothly! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(pictured is a self healing cutting mat, large quilting ruler, and a rotary cutter)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGGcb8SqyW7d8WR1OAyPTjRvkBvU2geBDkBadV-1X_w8NPm4Dsb71ApQhyphenhyphenVzQVgpEZafx133jxOczKGlX9qqFf2olzEASk42iw4NL9RtaK1SlEGeVuaB88HMbFmAsntdCG2WUnKeUJIg/s1600/3-2-11+012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGGcb8SqyW7d8WR1OAyPTjRvkBvU2geBDkBadV-1X_w8NPm4Dsb71ApQhyphenhyphenVzQVgpEZafx133jxOczKGlX9qqFf2olzEASk42iw4NL9RtaK1SlEGeVuaB88HMbFmAsntdCG2WUnKeUJIg/s320/3-2-11+012.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">For this tutu I am using 2 colors of tulle (teal and hot pink) The rolls of tulle are about 1000 times easier to work with than the stuff off the bolts and you end up with a much better looking final product!</div><div style="text-align: center;">The wide pink polka dot ribbon is what will be used to bind the waist together and make the big bow on the tutu </div><div style="text-align: center;">the solid teal ribbon is an accent ribbon and the polka dot teal ribbon will be used to make the layers for the tutu (this ribbon does not have to match...because in the end it is not seen in the finished product)</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbeNdLsHg7IWt3ZiavlAXsrJnysmz3Z5dJ8xKHk0zC16yoVIC6PM1VLMKMAS-T6pTGIOph09O9qWBw3V47t2vXWV1XD-bFZ2VfVC1wvmAsAL2ppmVWdwXBN0L-XxGJ0gT1MLD4ucguOw/s1600/3-2-11+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbeNdLsHg7IWt3ZiavlAXsrJnysmz3Z5dJ8xKHk0zC16yoVIC6PM1VLMKMAS-T6pTGIOph09O9qWBw3V47t2vXWV1XD-bFZ2VfVC1wvmAsAL2ppmVWdwXBN0L-XxGJ0gT1MLD4ucguOw/s320/3-2-11+009.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">alrighty... now you need to decide how long you want the actual tutu to be. This one is for an infant and I made the length 7 inches. What ever length you choose when you cut your tulle double that number. Which means I cut 14 inch sections of tulle.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw-LeraoGjSxEYxCBSd8fMKYTrnkKJbuy7L9OLuUPEjZh20S1dN0IN-pFY7qTBuWFicv51R3QAn3SrY5cE-smJXFVMxFAgTDWrP-X-9FfQyv20vvOeMCvSrr-uq8-R8uNaf1ToKCJVyg/s1600/3-2-11+015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw-LeraoGjSxEYxCBSd8fMKYTrnkKJbuy7L9OLuUPEjZh20S1dN0IN-pFY7qTBuWFicv51R3QAn3SrY5cE-smJXFVMxFAgTDWrP-X-9FfQyv20vvOeMCvSrr-uq8-R8uNaf1ToKCJVyg/s320/3-2-11+015.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Repeat this for all the colors you want to use in your tutu. How many you will need will depend on how big the waist measurement is. (This tutu I made for an aprox 18 inch waist. and I used aprox 55 pieces for each layer. )</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">now.... if you increased the ribbon measurement enough to tie a bow you could just stop here and you'd have a cute single layer tutu! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3zTzYXpjqT1apY5tExI91ycKHrpIuz-nyRv0T-IMCLeM70l0vSad_3_wrtSd20MBdfidYUifc7slBsRO01_4vbLY65iQicMG90fwB7Et-02VlI4ss8ep4LBhgchRInjlGCBwqo6lONQ/s1600/3-2-11+034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3zTzYXpjqT1apY5tExI91ycKHrpIuz-nyRv0T-IMCLeM70l0vSad_3_wrtSd20MBdfidYUifc7slBsRO01_4vbLY65iQicMG90fwB7Et-02VlI4ss8ep4LBhgchRInjlGCBwqo6lONQ/s320/3-2-11+034.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">but... the extra layer adds SO much to these IMO!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHeWWU96O8upClCE0Ds3FEQgYgzikCTR-ENG7zUdnIib5_xGUPZVDvq7LFfFfLejDtQlhj23M5RbbZ9qzUZ-JoITuJLURGSj0v3y2uHM32M5ox7ce78Xazcarh7iOcqSIIoyToIfuyrA/s1600/3-2-11+042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHeWWU96O8upClCE0Ds3FEQgYgzikCTR-ENG7zUdnIib5_xGUPZVDvq7LFfFfLejDtQlhj23M5RbbZ9qzUZ-JoITuJLURGSj0v3y2uHM32M5ox7ce78Xazcarh7iOcqSIIoyToIfuyrA/s320/3-2-11+042.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">to make the next layer repeat the same process </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I decided I wanted to add some extras peeking out from the middle of this tutu. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I took the "finishing" ribbon and cut three 7 inch section of it </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">then I took a needle and thread and tacked one end to the waist between 2 sections of tulle</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigWLoXqS6voqMNl-55NF_fyKLCcaZz0Z4sy2wOWhNd4eEgjQBDNpH1E6iwy2lffGvVNSSwRIoVX0BsS0wPPKCDDocoKW6Zx06VLlRchQvBM1K_jnGjmVqOKc7mGr__WGQtHBMaeS1wag/s1600/3-2-11+038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigWLoXqS6voqMNl-55NF_fyKLCcaZz0Z4sy2wOWhNd4eEgjQBDNpH1E6iwy2lffGvVNSSwRIoVX0BsS0wPPKCDDocoKW6Zx06VLlRchQvBM1K_jnGjmVqOKc7mGr__WGQtHBMaeS1wag/s320/3-2-11+038.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">( make sure you heat seal with a lighter or use an anti fray liquid on any cut sections of ribbon that will remain exposed)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">for the thinner accent ribbon I decided to slip knot it just like I did the tulle so that I would have 2 strands. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I liked how this looked with these accent ribbons just in the middle of the tutu... but you could also do them just through the top layer or through both of them! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To get them through the middle I put the second layer on top of this one. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Line the tops of the "layer" ribbon up and</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Use your needle and thread and tack the ends and the middle together and make it a little easier to work with.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now we are going to use your "finishing" ribbon. Leave yourself a decent length of ribbon at the end to tie a big bow, and weave the rest through both "layers" in between the sections of tulle. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4_x258ORAcruR2xQUnSOZzcPGJ2eW93IcEL4FXbIYJsleb5xk918z4rVNHkfNUpvu5A1j7pnvOO83D03TuAAP6peVxW1MpnHn6NsfXwgIua7CeblGBCmKYzDJePkdWYszGwrW4Jr78w/s1600/3-2-11+043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4_x258ORAcruR2xQUnSOZzcPGJ2eW93IcEL4FXbIYJsleb5xk918z4rVNHkfNUpvu5A1j7pnvOO83D03TuAAP6peVxW1MpnHn6NsfXwgIua7CeblGBCmKYzDJePkdWYszGwrW4Jr78w/s320/3-2-11+043.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I <3 them and their recipes are fantastic!! To be honest I actually make their version also (my husband requests this meal pretty much every week and I make him the spicy version and me this version!) so if you like some spice head over to their site and check it out! <a href="http://www.ourbestbites.com/2009/05/baked-creamy-chicken-taquitos.html">Our Best Bites Baked Creamy Chicken Taquitos </a>. I however like things a little bit tamer... if you know me well enough your probably saying to yourself "she actually eats this??" The answer is yes! With a bit of adjustment I actually enjoy this meal quite a bit also! :D<br />
<br />
1/3 c. or 3oz cream cheese<br />
1/2 c. garlic salsa (any salsa will do ... I am just in love with this particular salsa ATM )<br />
1/2 tsp onion powder<br />
1/2 tsp garlic powder<br />
2 c. shredded chicken<br />
1 c. sharp cheddar cheese<br />
1 package of small flour tortillas<br />
cooking spray<br />
course salt<br />
<br />
<br />
This is my other adorable assistant that will be joining us today... :)<br />

<br />
Start by cooking your chicken. This would be a great way to use up leftover chicken you have in the fridge but I usually just throw some in the oven with some olive oil, salt, and pepper<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFi1BsGv6h3HNQpbS2H8lI5cLTSr7ac3MczPF3xeDHjo9r5AwqIZKCe9-LWUemafUjjw5dg6iuCF0UeudAxBCtlsPJLmJs8yTxMzyLp1AxF4H7aHXijCacF3vMT2shU-LroRYysw8rOA/s1600/2-27-11+015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFi1BsGv6h3HNQpbS2H8lI5cLTSr7ac3MczPF3xeDHjo9r5AwqIZKCe9-LWUemafUjjw5dg6iuCF0UeudAxBCtlsPJLmJs8yTxMzyLp1AxF4H7aHXijCacF3vMT2shU-LroRYysw8rOA/s320/2-27-11+015.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

These cookies are super easy and yummy!<br />
<br />
preheat oven to 350 degrees<br />
Line cookie sheets with foil or parchment paper<br />
<br />
1 c. Pecans or Walnuts - finely chopped ( I use the bags of pre chopped pecans to save time)<br />
1/2 c. un cooked oats<br />
1/4 c. flour<br />
<br />
1/2 c light brown sugar (packed)<br />
1/2 c butter - cut into pieces<br />
2 tbls milk<br />
1/2 tsp vanilla<br />
<br />
<br />
place the first 3 ingredients in your food processor ( you dont HAVE to do this step...but it ensures you dont have large chunks of nuts or oats in your cookies)<br />
<br />
